Dear Publisher,
Please examine this ßeta release of the new READER program.
It will not force any changes on you, but will instead offer some
new and interesting features for you and your readers.
First feature you will notice when reaching the main menu is
that there a few new options. First is [A]utoRead. When a reader
chooses [A] at the article menu, they are taken on a guided tour of your
publication. Each file will be shown sequentially, with the option to
jump to the [N]ext article or [Q]uit the [A]utoRead after every screen
full.
Next comes the [C]olor option. When a reader chooses this
option at the article menu, they will be shown a screen of information
informing them how to start up the READER with the background color of
their choice.
Another added feature is support for [ANSIART] files. These are
a subset of ANSI files, designed specifically for the display of ANSI
artwork and animation. READER checks all the files before display to
look for [ANSIART] at the begining of the file. If it is found, the
file is displayed in non-stop mode if the reader has ANSI available. If
the reader determines that the user does not have ANSI available, it
still gives the option of viewing the file anyway or quiting.
We have also added the ability for the READER to launch out to
another program from the menu. This will enable those of you that would
like to include a self-running graphics file, batch file, executable,
whatever, to offer it to the user from within the READER. PLEASE NOTE
that this feature will NOT be offered when you publication is viewed in
the READROOM door. The menu choice, if identified as an executable,
will not be shown to online users in the READROOM door. To identify an
article as being an executable command or file, place an asterick '*'
immediately in front of the name of the executable file. You would then
have at least one space between the file name and the description. Do
not put a space between the asterick and the filename.
These are the main changes. Please evaluate these and let me
know ASAP how much you like/dislike them. Quickest way to contact me is
to do so by calling InfoMat BBS (714-492-8727) and leaving me a message.
Or you can send a message through the networks.
As soon as I get the READER all squared away, I will finish up
READROOM version 2.0 for distribution. More on that later.
